Marti's Pizza, now known as Tonn's Restaurant, was once a thriving venue for up and coming bands. Before they were playing massive arena shows, Green Day once played this humble venue. Coincidentally, this is also the place Green Day's lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, met his wife.
The Offspring played here on their "Sessions" tour one year before they released "Smash". They weren't even the headlining band that night....it was some awful band called "Iceburn"(I think)....
ReplyDeleteMarty's (Punk Rock Club) was one of the few places in the mid-90's where you got to see great punk bands before they became big.
When I worked there in 1973, it was called "'Marti's' Pizza." In fact, I think it was always "Marti's."
