Largest Mass Execution in US History - Mankato, MN

"On Dec. 26, 1862, the largest mass execution in U.S. history took place in Mankato, Minn. Thirty-eight Sioux warriors were hanged after the infamous "Sioux uprising," with the approval of President Abraham Lincoln." - Amy Gage, Star Tribune

The buffalo is to honor the fallen, supposedly standing in the exact spot of the execution.
