This beautiful and vibrant Bob Dylan mural wad added to the side of a building in downtown Minneapolis the summer of 2015. You can find it at the corner of Hennepin Avenue and South 5th Street.

Prince's House - "Purple Rain" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

 

Prince's house in the 1984 film "Purple Rain" was filmed in Minneapolis. In the still above, Prince is riding north on Snelling Avenue S., directly in front of the house. Below is the same location in August of 2015.

In the above still, Prince is pulling his motorcycle into his driveway on the right side of the house. In the photo taken below in 2015, it is clear the driveway and wooden fence are long gone.

Josh Hartnett's House - Minneapolis, MN

Josh Hartnett, movie star and Minnesota native, owned this house up until a week or so ago. It was recently sold to a new owner. In fact, as I type this, the "sold" sign is still in the yard. You can find it at 2405 Lake of the Isles Parkway East in Minneapolis.

Surly Brewing's Destination Brewery - Minneapolis, MN

Located at 520 Malcolm Avenue Southeast in Minneapolis, Surly Brewing opened up this brand new destination brewery in December of 2014.

The Moonlight Mile Bar (Interior) - "Beautiful Girls" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

Located at 501 Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis, the Nomad World Pub was used to shoot the interiors of the ficticious Moonlight Mile Bar in the film "Beautiful Girls." Above are two stills from the film which show the interior. Below is the Nomad World Pub in October of 2014. From what I understand, the seating booths seen above are no longer there.

King of Clubs - "Fargo" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

The King of Clubs bar was used as a filming location in the beginning of the film "Fargo." The bar has since been demolished and a building used to house HIV patients has been built in its place. Above are two stills from the film. Below is the same location in October of 2014. You can find it at 929 Central Avenue Northeast in Minneapolis.

Grumpy's Bar - "Joe Somebody" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

There are reports online that the karaoke scene in the film "Joe Somebody" was filmed at the Grumpy's Northeast location in Minneapolis. I visited that location and found it to be a false statement. With the help of the amazing Grumpy's staff, they directed me to the downtown location, which is located at 1111 Washington Avenue South. Above is a still from the film and below is the same location in October of 2014. The stage in the corner is very small, but it is there.

The Grumpy's staff at both locations treated my like royalty. In fact, an employee working at the downtown location was an extra in the film during this scene and showed me how everything was set up for the film, including the room used as Tim Allen's dressing room. He said it was a 14-hour shoot for a scene that took up approximately three minutes in the finished film. Also, be careful when you park downtown. I managed to get a $42 parking ticket while visiting this location.

Adam's Apartment - "Untamed Heart" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

Thanks to one of my readers, I was able to locate the location used for Adam's apartment in the film "Untamed Heart." In the above two stills from the film, you can see characters Caroline and Adam arriving at Adam's place. Below is the same location in September of 2014. These are the Florence Court Apartments located at 1022 University Avenue SE in Minneapolis. However, travel around the backside of the building to see this spot, right off of SE 2nd Street near the bridge.

Minnehaha Falls - Minneapolis, MN

Located in south Minneapolis, Minnehaha Falls is one of the most beautiful attractions in all of the Twin Cities!

L.A. Rockler Fur Co. - "Joe Somebody" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

Located at 16 North 4th Street in downtown Minneapolis, L.A. Rockler Fur Company was used as the backdrop of a scene between Joe and his son in the 2001 film "Joe Somebody." Above is a still from the film. Below is the same location in August of 2014. The characters above would have been walking from left to right in the photo below. The exact position of the still above would have put the two characters behind that police vehicle in the image below.

Mayslack's Bar - "Grumpier Old Men" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

Mayslack's Bar, located at 1428 4th Street NE in Minneapolis, was used for the interior shot of Slippery's Tavern when Maria walked into the bar to pursuade the boys to leave her restaurant alone. Above is a still from the film. Below is the same spot in September of 2014.

Waterford Towers (Part 3) - "Joe Somebody" Filming Location - Plymouth, MN

The infamous scene where Joe gets beat up by Mark happened in the parking lot of the 505 building of Waterford Towers. In the above still, Joe passes through security to enter the parking lot. As you can see in the below image from August of 2014, the security gate doesn't actually exist.

Once you get up the ramp, make a sharp left. That is where the slap took place. In the above still, Mark is getting his bag out of his truck as Joe approaches him; below in 2014. The 605 building is in the background.

In the still above, Mark slaps Joe. Below is the same spot in 2014. If you are looking for this spot, I will try to make it easy for you. See the cars below? If you were to push them forward, they would fall onto the ramp I showed you above.

The Theater (Exterior) - "Joe Somebody" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

Located at 113 North 1st Street in Minneapolis, this location was used as the exterior of the theater Joe's ex-wife is performing at in the 2001 film "Joe Somebody." As you can see in the above still from the film, the exterior was made up to look like a theater, but it truly is not. Below is the same location in August of 2014.

The Johnson Inn (Interior) - "Beautiful Girls" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

Located at 212 2nd Street SE in Minneapolis is the location used for the interior shots of the ficticious Johnson Inn in the film "Beautiful Girls." Above are two stills from the film that were shot here. This location has been various bars throughout the years and as of August of 2014, the bar is empty which is why I could only get the below exterior shot of the location used for interior shots. Makes sense, right?

Star Spangled Banner VFW Post 1149 - "Beautiful Girls" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

Located at 3018 17th Avenue South in Minneapolis is the former location of the Star Spangled Banner VFW Post 1149. This was used for the party scene in the film "Beautiful Girls." Over the years, it switched from a VFW to a Somali church to a Spanish rec room. As of September of 2014, it is closed and undergoing renovations. This is a rough neighborhood and visiting here at night may not be the best idea.

Minnehaha Falls - "Little Big League" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

Minnehaha Falls in South Minneapolis was the location used for the bridge fishing scene in the 1994 film "Little Big League." Above is a still from the film; below in August of 2014.

1st Ever TargetExpress - Minneapolis, MN

Located on the corner of SE 5th Street and SE 14th Avenue in Minneapolis, this is the first ever (and as of August 2014, the ONLY) TargetExpress store in the country. There are currently five other locations being built. These stores are set up very similar to Walgreen's Drug Stores.

Fulton's Alley - "D3: Mighty Ducks 3" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

In the above still from the film, Charlie and his mom are headed East on South 10th Street in Minneapolis...near the 700 block. Below is the same spot in July of 2014.

Charlie's mom stops to drop him off in the still above. You can see the background hasn't changed much in the 2014 image below. This alley is located behind an all-brick apartment complex on South 10th Street near the 700 block.

In the still above, Charlie gets out of the car and walks over to Fulton, who is practicing slap-shots in the alley. Below is the same spot in 2014.

Charlie and Fulton are discussing hockey in the still above as they wait for Goldberg; below is the same spot in 2014. As you can see in the above still, the wall and windows behind Fulton were fake and put there for the production of the film.

If you visit this location just be aware that this is a shady neighborhood. I wouldn't suggest visiting it at night.
