Lizzy Gets Robbed - "Drop Dead Fred" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

The landscape of downtown Minneapolis has changed dramatically since the filming of "Drop Dead Fred." In the scene documented here, Lizzy's purse and car get stolen while she is on the payphone. In the above still from the film, you can see just how much the area has changed. Below is the same spot, facing north on Harmon Place accross South 12th Street.

In the above still, Lizzy is on the corner in the phone booth. Below is the same corner in August of 2014. You can see the green street pole and yellow traffic light are exactly the same.

In the above still from the film, you can see Lizzy's blue car parked kitty-corner from where the phone booth was. The guy in the blue shirt is about to steal her car! Below is the same spot in 2014. The red building above has also been remodeled as you can see below. It is part of Augusburg College.

Charles' Car Dealership - "Drop Dead Fred" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

Located at 222 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis, this location was used at Charles' car dealership in the film "Drop Dead Fred." This dealership, formerly Rudy Luther Jaguar, was torn down in 2007 and a Whole Foods grocery store was built in it's place. The above photo is a still from the film; below is the exact same location in 2014.

Elizabeth's House - "Drop Dead Fred" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

This location took me some serious research but I finally found it. In fact, I held on to the address for a few years so I could have this gem all to myself. But now, I turn the location of Elizabeth's house over to you. Located at 2018 Humboldt Avenue South in Minneapolis, the above photo is how the house appeared in the film; below in 2014.

As you can see, the giant tree has been removed.

No red fire trucks the day I was there!

Enjoy this location. I certainly did!

Paisley Park Studios - Chanhassen, MN

Located at 7801 Audubon Road in Chanhassen, Minnesota, this studio and soundstage is owned by musician Prince. There were two notable movies filmed here. The interior shots of Max and John's homes in "Grumpy Old Men" were shot here as well as the dream sequence at the end of "Drop Dead Fred."

Dr. Ryland's Office - "Drop Dead Fred" Filming Locations - Minneapolis, MN

Located at 1403 Harmon Place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this building's interior was used as Dr. Ryland's office in Drop Dead Fred.
In the above still taken from the film, notice the mirror in the background. I tried my best to take the photo directly in the same spot the camera would have been in, seen below in 2014.

The above image is a still of the waiting room as it appeared in the film. Below is how it appears in 2014.

This was my favorite spot and, as a huge fan of this film, I was actually star struck to see these steps in person. Above is a still from the film as the character Namby Pamby makes her appearance. Below is how the steps look in 2014.
This location is now used as part of the local technical college, but you can walk right in and see these locations for yourself...just be aware you have to pay for parking.

"Drop Dead Fred" Filming Locations

Located at 725 Vineland Place in Minneapolis,  this is the scene in the film where Mickey drops off Elizabeth at Charles's gala.

This is the same location as it appears in 2014. The back side of the building was known as the Guthrie Theater, which has since been rebuilt elsewhere. The front part of the building is known as the Walker Art Museum and still remains open to this day.
