Nancy's House - "A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)" Filming Location - Barrington, IL

It's true, the classic "A Nightmare on Elm Street" film was re-made in 2010 with an all new cast. As iconic as the original ANOES house was, the re-make did a nice job of finding their own Freddy/Nancy house. The center character of the re-make was Nancy Holbrook and this is her house in the still above, from the film. Below is the same house in August of 2015. Gary's House - "Weird Science" Filming Location - Highland Park, IL

Gary's house was the central location for the 1985 film "Weird Science." Above is a still from the film, showing the exterior of the house. Below is the same location in August of 2015. You can find it at 1200 Linden Avenue in Highland Park, Illinois.

Kevin Talks with Santa - "Home Alone" Filming Location - Winnetka, IL

In the film "Home Alone," Kevin hunts down a fake Santa to tell him he wants his family back in hopes the fake Santa will tell the real Santa. Above is a still from the film; below is the same location in August of  2015. You can find this spot at 810 Chestnut Court in Winnetka, Illinois.

Exchequer Restaurant & Pub - Chicago, IL

The Exchequer Restaurant is an establishment that was frequented by the infamous gangster, Al Capone. This restaurant is extremely proud that Capone was a regular, so much so that the wait staff wears shirts with bullet holes in them. The food is good and the beer is cold, what more can you ask for? You can find the Exchequer Restaurant & Pub at 226 South Wabash Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.

Woodstock Theatre - "Groundhog Day" & "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" Filming Location - Woodstock, IL

Woodstock Theatre was used for the theater scene in the film "Groundhog Day." You can see how the theater appeared in the film in the two stills above. Below is how the theater looked in August of 2015.

The theater was also seen briefly in the film "Planes, Trains and Automobiles." In the still below, you can see a shot down Main Street with the theater's marquee on the left.

New Trier West High School - "Uncle Buck" Filming Location - Northfield, IL

New Trier West High School, located at 7 Happ Road in Northfield, Illinois, was used as Tia's school in the 1989 movie "Uncle Buck." In the still above from the film, you can see Buck pull up in his car. Below is the same spot in August of 2015.

Glenbrook North High School - "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" Filming Location - Northbrook, IL

Glenbrook North High School was used for the scene where Mr. Rooney and Sloan are waiting for Sloan's father in the film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." You can see Mr. Rooney standing at the top of the stairs in the still above. Below is the same spot in August of 2015.

John Hancock Center - "Poltergeist 3" Filming Location - Chicago, IL

The John Hancock Center, located at 875 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago, was used as the exterior of Caroline's apartment in the 1988 film "Poltergeist 3." It was also the motivation for the movie poster, seen above. Below is the building in August of 2015.

Deb's House - "Weird Science" Filming Location - Highland Park, IL

In the 1985 film "Weird Science," Gary Wallace's crush on his classmate Deb culminated with a kiss outside of her home. Above is a still from the film. Below is the same location in August of 2015. You can see the trim around the front door is the same 30 years later! Find this house at 1150 Linden Avenue in Highland Park, Illinois.

Trinity United Methodist Church - "Home Alone" Filming Location - Wilmette, IL

This is the church where Kevin hid in the nativity scene in the film "Home Alone." Above is a still from the film; below is the same location in August of 2015. You can find it at 1024 Lake Avenue in Wilmette, Illinois.

John Wayne Gacy's Horror House - Des Plaines, IL

John Wayne Gacy was convicted of killing 33 teenage boys and young men inside his Des Plaines, Illinois home between 1972 and 1978. Gacy was executed for his crimes on May 10th, 1994.

The image above shows where he had hidden the bodies in his home, mainly below the floor boards. 

The crime scene photo above from 1978 shows police presence and a dumpster to dispose of building materials they pulled out of the house to excavate the bodies. The house was eventually torn down. In the image below taken in August of 2015, a new home has been built where Gacy's house once stood. You can see the house on the left has the same slope in the photo above and below to verify this is the exact location.

Gacy's original address was 8213 West Summerdale Avenue in Des Plaines, Illinois. The new home replacing Gacy didn't want that address, so the "technical" address is 8215 West Summerdale Avenue.

Moose Lodge - "Groundhog Day" Filming Location - Woodstock, IL

The dance scenes from the film "Groundhog Day" were filmed at the Moose Lodge, located at 406 Clay Street in Woodstock, Illinois. Above is a still from the film, shot from within the Moose Lodge. Below is the exterior of the building in August of 2015.

The Party House - "Uncle Buck" Filming Location - Northbrook, IL

In the above still from the film "Uncle Buck," Buck visited a house party in search of his niece. You can see Buck's car in the driveway. Below is the same house in August of 2015. The address is 2224 Crabtree Lane in Northbrook, Illinois.

Save Ferris Water Tower - "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" Filming Location - Northbrook, IL

The Save Ferris water tower, as shown in the above still from the film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," is located in downtown Northbrook, Illinois. The lettering stayed on the water tower for many years but was eventually painted over. Below is how the water tower looked in August of 2015.

Ned's Corner - "Groundhog Day" Filming Location - Woodstock, IL

The corner, actually known as Ned's corner, where Phil punches Ned is located at 100 Cass Street in Woodstock, Illinois. Above is a still from the film. Below is the same location in August of 2015.

The city of Woodstock added many plaques all throughout the town commemorating the various filming locations of "Groundhog Day."

Duncan's Toy Chest - "Home Alone 2" Filming Location - Chicago, IL

The 1992 film "Home Alone 2" is set in the city of New York. However, parts of it were shot in Chicago. For example, the fictitious Duncan's Toy Chest was shot in Chicago's downtown. Armored Car Heist - "Groundhog Day" Filming Location - Woodstock, IL

Bill Murray's character robs an armored car in front of a bank in the 1993 film "Groundhog Day." The two images above are stills from the film showing the waitress approach the armored car and then Murray taking the money. Below is that same location in August of 2015. It is located at 188 Cass Street in Woodstock, Illinois.

Prince's House - "Purple Rain" Filming Location - Minneapolis, MN

 

Prince's house in the 1984 film "Purple Rain" was filmed in Minneapolis. In the still above, Prince is riding north on Snelling Avenue S., directly in front of the house. Below is the same location in August of 2015.

In the above still, Prince is pulling his motorcycle into his driveway on the right side of the house. In the photo taken below in 2015, it is clear the driveway and wooden fence are long gone.
