Divine Redeemer Hospital - "The Cure," "Drop Dead Gorgeous" & "Grumpy Old Men" Filming Location - St. Paul, MN

Sometimes I visit locations and they are the same as they were in the film and I get very excited! Sometimes I visit locations and they are torn down, which is the case in the Divine Redeemer Hospital. This hospital was used in at least three different movies. This location was used in the film "The Cure," as shown in the two stills above. "Drop Dead Gorgeous" filmed their hospital scenes here as did the hospital scenes at the end of "Grumpy Old Men."
It saddens me that it's gone. Well, most of it is gone. The bulk of the hospital was torn down in 2012. All thats left is this administration building shown in my image above. It was taken in September of 2014. The address is 724 19th Avenue North in South St. Paul, Minnesota.

Max, John & Ariel's Houses - "Grumpier Old Men" Filming Location - St. Paul, MN

I have been to this location and documented it on this blog before. However, it was winter time so I filed it under the "Grumpy Old Men" section. These were used in both films but it was winter time in the first movie and summer time in the second. Located at 1133 and 1137 Hyacinth Avenue East in St. Paul are Max and John's houses. The above photo is a still from the film; below in July of 2014.

When I documented the houses in an earlier post, I forgot to include Ariel's house. So here it is, located at 1122 Hyacinth Avenue East in St. Paul (DIRECTLY accross the street from Max and John's houses). The above image is a still from the film; below in 2014.

Slippery's Tavern - "Grumpy Old Men" Filming Location - St. Paul, MN

The Half Time Rec (as of 2014) is the location used for the interior of Slippery's Tavern in "Grumpy Old Men." The address is 1013 Front Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota. The above photo is a still from the film; below is 2014.

Some of the decor has changed, but not by much. The above image is a still from the film; below in 2014.

You can see a wall behind Jack Lemmon's character as he is sitting at the bar. That was was a fake one put in by the crew from "Grumpy Old Men" to give the bar a much smaller feel. You can see in the image below, the bar goes back pretty far. The wall would've been approximately where that book bag is sitting on the bar top.

Paisley Park Studios - Chanhassen, MN

Located at 7801 Audubon Road in Chanhassen, Minnesota, this studio and soundstage is owned by musician Prince. There were two notable movies filmed here. The interior shots of Max and John's homes in "Grumpy Old Men" were shot here as well as the dream sequence at the end of "Drop Dead Fred."

"Grumpy Old Men" Filming Locations - Chisago Lake Swedish Lutheran Church - Center City, MN

Located at 1 Summit Avenue in Center City, Minnesota, this is the church at the end of Grumpy Old Men where Jack Lemmon's character gets married. The above photo is how the exterior of the church looked in the film. Below is how it looked in 2014.

The interior of the church is beautiful and was used for the interior shots of the wedding scene as well. Above is a still from the film. Below you can see the altar has changed slightly since the movie was shot.

Again, the photo above is from the film and the photo below is from 2014.

Ariel and John leave in the limo (above) and you can see the street as it looks in 2014 (below). This is Main Street, right next to the church. A good way to compare is to match up the street lights and telephone poles.
