Town of Spectre - "Big Fish" Filming Location - Montgomery, AL

This was one of those bucket list locations for me. Located just north of Montgomery, Alabama, the fictitious Town of Spectre resides. This was a movie set built for the 2003 Tim Burton film "Big Fish," and much of it remains standing. The top photo of each set here is a still from the film, and the bottom photo is the same location in June of 2022.

In the above photo, the actual set was blocked off so I couldn't enter the building, but you can line up the shots with the fireplace. 

 I would visit this set soon if you are aiming to ever see it. The buildings are beginning to fall apart and many of the town's buildings have already caved in.

Kelly Ingram Park - Birmingham, AL

 

Used as a staging area during the Civil Rights Movement, Kelly Ingram Park can be found bounded by 16th and 17th Streets and 5th and 6th Avenues North in the Birmingham Civil Rights District. It was here, in May of 1963, where police dogs and fire hoses were used as instruments of police brutality against protestors.

Elvis Presley Birthplace - Tupelo, MS

The birthplace of Elvis Presley can be found at 306 Elvis Presley Drive in Tupelo, Mississippi. This photo was taken in June of 2022.

 

Ryman Auditorium - Nashville, TN

One of the most famous and musically influential spots in all of Nashville, this is The Ryman Auditorium.

 

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn Statue - Hannibal, MO

This statue of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn can be found on North Street in Mark Twin's hometown of Hannibal, Missouri.

The 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing - Birmingham, AL

The 16th Street Baptist Church bombing was a white supremacist terrorist bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church at 1530 6th Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday, September 15th, 1963. Dozens were injured and four children lost their lives. This is the location in 

The Superman Museum - Metropolis, IL

 

Honestly, Metropolis, Illinois is the perfect spot for anything Superman. You can find this tourist trap at 517 Market Street. I made the visit (and spent some money) here in June of 2022.

Sun Studio - Memphis, TN

Opened by Sam Phillips in the early 1950s, this was the birthplace of many famous musical careers such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash. You can find it at 706 Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.

Graceland - Elvis Presley's Mansion - Memphis, TN

This 14 acre property was the place Elvis Presley once called home. It was his mansion known as Graceland. You can find it at 3764 Elvis Presley Boulevard in Memphis, Tennessee. 

Mark Twain's Childhood Home - Hannibal, MO

 

It's fascinating to me how such a small town can celebrate one of America's most distinguished authors, but Hannibal, Missouri is very proud of their Mark Twain. You can find Twain's childhood home in Hannibal at 120 North Main Street.

The Gateway Arch - St. Louis, MO

 

I visited the Gateway Arch in June of 2022. Below is a write-up from Wikipedia:
